Abstract India has set a target of 100 GW solar installation capacity by the year 2022. However, loss energy due to environmental factors like air pollution is not properly considered in renewable resource assessments. Here we show that lost 29% its utilizable global horizontal irradiance potential between 2001 and 2018. The average output incurred power systems with horizontal, fixed-tilt, single-axis, dual-axis trackers estimated be 12%, 26%, 33%, 41%, respectively, equivalent 245–835 million USD annually. successful implementation National Clean Air Program complete mitigation household emissions through supply cleaner fuel for domestic use rural electrification would allow generate surplus 6–16 TWh electricity per from existing installed This translates an economic benefit 325–845 annually, which costs these social programs.
